It's hard to know how to start thinking about working with Jessie Zalla.  Not only is she a deeply experienced Pilates teacher, with a rich understanding of anatomy and movement, but she is also an outstanding person, full of wit and intelligence.   I have been working with her for years, and the amount of mental energy she has expended in trying to help me heal my sore lower back is impressive.  She cares deeply about her students, working with them to not only strengthen their bodies, but also to help them come to understand the underlying connections between muscles and joints, between their mind and their bodies, as well as the fundamental physics of movement and its relation to mental health.  She teaches her students with great care and devotion. as well as a keen intellect.  She is deeply knowledgeable about all forms of body work.  If you are looking for a more traditional, rigid interpretation of Joseph Pilates's techniques, then working with Jessie Zalla is not for you.  If you would like to enrich your understanding of how your body works, and perhaps make it work better, then you could not find a better teacher or indeed a better person to take you down that path.

I started going to Zalla Pilates 11 years ago, after the birth of my second child.  In addition to wanting to strengthen my core after two pregnancies, I had also struggled for years with my posture and standing up straight.  Jessie's work with me has been completely transformative, and I have followed her from location to location.  I won't go to any other studio.  And then Jessie gave me a second teacher/guru, Kristine, who has taken my strong body and made it even stronger. She has challenged me to rethink how I perform every single exercise, from the basic to the more complex.  It's been really hard, and incredibly rewarding.  I would like to keep doing Pilates with Jessie and Kristine forever, and that's my plan!
